Beach hair waves with Bumble and Bumble

waves 1I’m someone who really does try to advocate strong healthy hair – hence all the blogs on buns, elegant ponytails and plaits! However, everyonce in a while everyone needs to ‘let their hair down’….so to speak!

I decided to create the beach hair waves – unforutnately, my hair isn’t naturally gorgeous so needs quite a lot of hard work to ironically create a ‘natural look’! However, to try and protect it as much as possible, I’ve used various Ojon and Bumble and Bumble products with the primary goal of protecting whilst styling.

This was the end result:

How to create the look

1.) Wash and roughly dry your hair as usual
2.)Remove frizz with a few drops of serum onto dry hair – I love B&B’s Hairdressers Invisible oil as it reduces frizz as well as protecting hair against breakages.

3.)Divide your hair into sections.
4.) Spray the first section of your hair well with a heat protecting styling product (I have reviewed Elnett’s new spray heat protector, which though protects your hair, I found was not good at keeping the style). I therefore HIGHLY reccomend Bumble and Bumble’s ‘spray de mode‘ – this not only protects your hair, but still leaves it soft, smooth and keeps the shapes of your curls

5)After spraying your hair, use your GHD’s or curling wand to create lots of small tight ringlets.
6) Continue with the rest of the sections of hair (leaving the fringe)
7)When your done, you’ll have a head full of tight ringlets
8) Here comes the teasing of the ringlets to create that beach hair look: spray a sea salt spray through your hair and gently un-tease all those tight ringlets. (I used Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Spray, especially at the roots to create volume)

And there you have it! Some sexy beach waves, ready for any occassion!

Moroccan Oil and hair products haul

I’ve heard A LOT of good things about Moroccan oil over the last couple of weeks, when strangely I hadn’t heard of it before. As someone with horrendously frizzy, knotty and untameable hair, when I hear people rave about a hair product, I bl*$dy jump on that band wagon.

I was in Boots looking for this one which my friend had used in a hair salon and said was amazing:

moroccan oil

But I couldn’t find it anywhere. Unfortunately, my eyes lit up when I saw 3 for 2 on professional hair care products and so I decided to try out another type of Moroccan Oil. I saw Lee Stafford had produced a new range of Moroccan Argan oil and a range for breaking hair. I decided to get the lot.

In the picture from left to right there is – Breaking hair conditioner, mini hold-tight hair spray, breaking hair detangling spray, mini poker straight flat iron protector spray, argan oil from morocco and spray shine.

Review

Right, first thing comes first, Lee stafford says ‘look great smell beautiful’ on the side of his products. Sadly, they all smelled like horror. But more importantly did they really work?

Using the breaking hair conditioner, I have to say it glid through my hair and also did a great job of detangling. However, Tresemme’s silk proteins conditioner makes it far more silky smooth, so I’ll be sticking with them in the future. But, it wasn’t bad, and I’m always on the lookout for new products.

After the conditoner I put in a few drops of the Argan Oil, the prodcut I was most looking forward to using. I then spritzed a little detangling spray in and got to work with the blowdryer. The results?

My hair was still GIGANTIC, like a male lion who had been through a tornado. However, I have to say, my hair felt incredibly soft. So despite looking awful, it was really soft to touch. I felt half massively disappointed and half really pleased? Though I had been trying to resist straightening my hair, given its silkiness I decided to quickly run over them with the irons.

Here are the results:

My eyes then fell on the mini shine spray I’d bought. I put in a few spritzes (panicking it would have glitter in it). I coudn’t see any difference, but it didn’t leave my hair feeling minging either!

Well, that’s enough about Lee Stafford hair products, on the whole, I wouldn’t reccomend them, except for the Argan oil. But who knows, maybe all Argan oils are great and there are bette ones out there? Have you guys tried moroccan oils? If so, which ones and how did you find them?

Brazilian blow dry – silky smooth hair for 6 months

Some of you girls are wondering ‘what on earth is a Brazilian blow dry?’

No, it’s not a blow dry of your intimate areas as I jumped to believe! It’s a deep conditioning treatment that smoothens your hair through adding keratin to the hair follicles.  The results are fab – about 6 months of frizz free hair, though the 3 hour treatment is pretty harrowing.

If you’re somebody who has always dreamed of frizz-free silky and shiny hair, this product will change your life.

Do I need a Brazilian blow dry?

Ok – so the key thing to remember is that this is NOT a straightening treatment, but rather a smoothing treatment.  If you want to contain your unruly curls then this treatment is not for you.

If you have course frizzy hair – this treatment is an absolute godsend.  For around 6 months your hair will be so much more manageable, silky and shiny.  To give you a better idea of how well this product really works, when you leave your hair to dry naturally, the result is not that of ‘lioness dragged backwards through hedge’ but will have that silky sleek feel you get from straightening (but of course its not straight, just silky.)

After your hair is dry you can do what you want to it, leave it natural, make it poker striaght or curly – and the time to do so will be a million times less.

Where can I get this amazing treatment done!?

You can get this treatment done at a hair salon or you can do it yourself.

At a hair salon –

  • You get pampered like a princess
  • They do all the hard work (and there’s a lot of it)
  • But – it costs a bomb, especially if you have extra long or tricky hair (which is 99% of people getting this done)
  • They don’t use as much product, or as good a product as when you do it yourself (so lasts for less time)

DIY

  • You can use as much product as you want, making sure you cover all your hair well.
  • For the same price as at a salon, you can do it three times yourself!!! (if you have a good pair of hair straighteners)
  • But – it is a pain to do – (wash hair, dry hair, apply product, dry hair, straighten hair with product etc etc you get the drift)
  • Great if you can get someone to help you ( on your own,  is do-able, but extremely fiddly)
  • READ THE DIRECTIONS they are numerous and confusing.

What is the best product

Without a doubt – Keratin complex smoothing therapy by Coppola.  This can’t be purchased from their website, but you can buy it from Amazon.  Also, I recommend you buy their clarifying shampoo, which strips the hair of products so as much keratin as possible can enter your hair follicle.  They also have some great styling products that work on a daily basis, but are by no means essential.

I can’t recommend this product enough, in terms of working well, I’d rate it 10/10 the only bad points are the smell, price and difficulty of application.

So if you’re sick of unruly hair, give a Brazilian blow dry a try!

Get rid of frizz! Enjoy smooth and silky hair!

I’ve tried every shampoo and conditioner under the sun, from the ones found in the supermarket to high-end salon  products and serums.  All in an attempt to contain my raging hair with its fried split ends…!

Although I was previously a die-hard Aussie user ( 90% because of its amazing smell) I have since been converted to…….you’ll never have guessed it, TRESseme!

I have long dark brown hair, which is naturally very thick and coarse.  Under the heat of GHDs it can become just  about manageable but leaving it naturally to dry is an absolute no-no.  It kinks and frizzes and no type of conditioner can really tame it.

The closest I’ve found to making it silky is TRESemme’s smooth and silky with vitamin H and silk proteins.  It smoothens and conditions without weighing my hair down.  Its also got a big easy-to-use pump bottle.  It’s also got a gorgeous fresh smell to it.

It still doesn’t get the kinks out of my hair, but at least the frizz is gone.  I also love that fact it doesn’t cost a  fortune…especially because I get through a good 500mls every month! I never knew it took so little to have gorgeous, manageable and affordable hair.

Have you guys tried it? What do you reckon?
