Fake it baby!

I’m sure a lot of you, like me, raise an eyebrow at the thought of paying £45.96 for San Tropez’s bronzing kit.  Well, my eyebrow was raised, but I bought it all the same.

I have to say, it worked very nicely as there was no green tinge and it was fairly easy to apply. But, for the price tag it came with, it wasn’t worth it.  There were still streaks here and there, no doubt from the cheap foam mitt they provided. It also lasted three days (no doubt because of the moisturizer), but I’m sure that Nivea body would work just as well.

So, that’s when it came it me.  It was time for somebody to discover a fake tan which didn’t cost an arm and a leg and which looked even better than St Tropez.  And would you believe it, I found it!

Ok, I know that it is a terrible rip-off version of St Tropez, they even called it St Moriz for goodness sake! But it does work as well, I promise, and it only costs about £2.00! I found mine in Savers (don’t judge me) but you can also get it online.

With is costing just a fraction of the price of the original, you don’t have to feel guilty about applying it  above your skirt hem in an effort to save every last drop as you do with St Tropez.  It lasts just as long, comes in three shades, smells nice and dries quickly.  This fake tan looks great not only for special occasions, but even every day at the office.  It means you can ditch your foundation (which I usually often use just to give colour to my deathly white winter skin) by adding warmth to your natural colour, giving you that sun kissed glow.

There are a few points to remember though in order to make the most of your application

  • Buy a good tanning mitt.  Boots and Bodyshop always have  them.  (if you don’t use one you WILL end up with chocolate colored palms, with lots of residue between the fingers.)
  • Before you fake tan, have a shower and exfoliate.  Even if it’s just with the loofa.
  • Moisturize after exfoliation  (otherwise it will clog your pores and you will look dirty!)
  • Work slowly and methodically round your body.  Don’t blotch it here and there and then rub it in because it will leave big brown stains, which is never a good look
  • Less is more when on your face.  But remember to always to your neck and ears.
  • If you get it on your hands toothpaste gets it off.

So that’s it, an affordable tanning lotion.  Now you girls can go ahead and glow this Autumn.
